Baby Penguin On the Way!

That's right...we're having a BABY!!!!!
I'm about 6 months pregnant now, but this post will specifically be about the time leading up to now, sound good? *pause* Good!

Traz and I went down to see his sister, Mailee, and her husband, Spencer for Christmas. The entire family was there, too! Mailee and Spencer had just had a little boy, James, a few weeks earlier. Let me tell you, he was CUTE! So there we all are, in Utah and having a great time.
Traz and I suspected that I was pregnant, but we hadn't gotten a positive test yet.

SIDE STORY:

I had taken a test about 3 days after I missed my period. Traz kept saying that I shouldn't take the test because it might be too soon. I told him I had to take it because I would have to change what stuff I did at the cat shelter I volunteered at. I wouldn't be allowed to scoop litter boxes if I was pregant. So, Traz I let me take the test and sure enough....it said "no". I had never hated a piece of paper more in my life! Traz said we should wait to take it again until we get back from Mailee and Spencer's place.

NOW BACK TO THE MAIN POST:

So everyone was having a great time and it had been over a week since my period was suppose to have come. Traz and I were very excited, but we hadn't told anyone the good news! No one suspected anything either...until....

Morning sickness.

It wasn't like I was throwing up in front of my family, but I was not feeling good at all. One time we were in the back of the van and when we finally stopped I turned to Traz and said, "If you don't get me out of this thing now, I WILL throw up on you".  I just had no energy and felt queasy all the time! It was a wierd emotion too, because I was really excited to be feeling this way but I really hated it at the same time!
Soon, family began to suspect and we told Traz's parents and Mailee and Spencer. I guess my eating almost an entire jar of baby dill pickles and dipping them into mashed potatoes gave the pregnancy away....

So, a drive back to Rexburg,  a positive pregnancy test, and a phone call later we had our first appointment at Madison Women's Clinic!

The first ultrasound was a magical and uncomfortable experience. Traz got the majority of the magical part, that's for sure. They do an internal ultrasound for the first one so as to get a better picture. That means they got an ultrasound wand and put it right up inside of me. It didn't hurt, but I didn't want to stay in that position forever.

It was an amazing experience though. The baby was pretty well developed (I was 9 weeks pregnant at the time). He was wiggiling around a lot too! Eventually, the technician turned the screen away from me because I was moving too much and she needed to get a good look at my ovaries and such. So Traz got to look at the baby more while I got prodded some more.

The morning sickness came and the morning sickness went. It wasn't too awful and I managed it pretty well. Traz and I went to a few doctor appointments and I was doing just fine.

Then came the big moment when we would find out if we were having a boy or girl.

We went to Madisons and I was very excited. We got into the technician's room and got to work. This time, the baby was big enough for an external ultrasound.

It was so magical seeing how much our baby had grown over the past few months. The baby was positioned enough so that we could see a full frontal of the face. I nearly cried when I looked at our future child. It was the most amazing thing I had ever seen so far in my life.

Sadly, the baby was not being very good for the technician. She needed the little one to move around so she could get the pictures needed by the doctors. This resulted in the technician bouncing the ultrasound wand on my stomach...a lot.
Yeah, that wasn't exactly fun. Sadly, she didn't get all of the pictures she needed but she did catch a glimpse of what we were having.

*drumroll*

A BOY!!

Traz and I were very excited! We made our next appointment and celebrated!

So that's pretty much brought everyone up to date! Oh, but of course we need to have my belly pictures! Here are the ones I have taken so far! (Yes, these are also on facebook too)

Why Penguins?

"Where did the whole 'penguin' thing come from?"

"Why do you call eachother penguins?"

We get this all the time, so I figured I would post about our nickname for eachother.

While Traz and I were dating, I cam across a comic strip that I had seen a long time ago. I thought it was very cute and wanted to show it to him. Here it is:

"Did you know that when a penguin has found it's mate, they stay together for the rest of their lives?"

"Be my penguin?"

After showing this to Traz, he simply looked at me and said, "You're my penguin!".

And there you have it, our pet name for one another was born!

How Two Penguins Met

The day was September 19th, 2010. Yep, I even remember the exact day. Traz and I were being set apart for callings for our church ward. We were both just sitting there when one of us, we don't know who, said "Hello". We started to talk and ask the basic questions:

Traz: So what are you going into?

Me: Theatre and Speech Education with a History Education minor.

Traz: Cool. So you want to be a teacher?

Me: Yeah. What are you going into?

Traz: Computer Engineering.

Me: Oh really? What do you want to do with that?

Traz: *smiles* Build robots and take over the world.....

Me: *laughs* (Thinking: Oh no...this guy is a complete dork, and a nerd, and probably REALLY awkward to take out in public...)

[yeah...I really thought that]

Due to various Church activities that day, Traz and I ran into eachother a lot. He was actually trying to sit next to me for this big meeting, but lost me in the crowd. We bumped into eachother at a rootbeer float party being held in the apartment above mine. We talked some more, getting to know one another better. Traz, hearing that I liked to sing, invited me to go stadium singing with him. (That's when a bunch of people go under the football field bleachers and sing hymns. It's a lot of fun!) Now this was the moment, we later realized, that if I had said "no" then Traz would have moved onto a different girl and we probably would have never dated and gotten married. I was considering saying no too, because I had been hurt a lot earlier in the year from past relationships. Then a little thought came into my head saying, "What's the worst that can happen?"

So I said...."Sure!"

And the rest....

...is history.

(By "History" I mean that Traz and I dated, he proposed to me in December at Disneyland and then we got married April 15th, 2011)
